Cardamom Rose Meringues are light, airy, and delicately flavored with warm cardamom and floral rose water. These crisp, melt-in-your-mouth treats are perfect for tea parties, special occasions, or as an elegant gluten-free dessert. Easy to make and beautifully unique, they pair wonderfully with coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 3 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pink food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 225°F (110°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whip Egg Whites: In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until frothy.
  • Add Cream of Tartar: Add cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  • Incorporate Sugar: Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
  • Add Flavor: Gently fold in cardamom, rose water, and vanilla extract. If using, add a drop of pink food coloring for a marbled effect.
  • Pipe Meringues: Transfer mixture to a piping bag with a star tip. Pipe small swirls onto the baking sheet.
  • Bake: Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, until crisp and dry. Turn off the oven and cool meringues inside with the door slightly ajar.
  • Serve: Once completely cooled, enjoy with tea or coffee.

Notes

  • Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted dark chocolate over cooled meringues.
  • Nutty Crunch: Sprinkle finely chopped pistachios before baking.
  • Citrus Twist: Add lemon or orange zest for a bright, citrusy flavor.
