Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes combine creamy mashed potatoes with savory garlic and melted Cheddar cheese for a rich, comforting side dish. Perfect for family dinners or holiday gatherings, this dish is easy to make and sure to satisfy everyone at the table.

Ingredients

 

  • large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup freshly shredded Cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Potatoes:

  1. Boil Potatoes – Place peeled and cut potatoes in a large pot and cover with salted water.
  2. Simmer – Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork.
  3. Drain – Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.

Prepare the Garlic Butter:

  1. Melt Butter – In a microwave-safe bowl, combine butter and minced garlic. Microwave in 30-second intervals until melted and fragrant. Stir to combine.

Mash the Potatoes:

  1. Mash – Using a potato masher, mash the cooked potatoes until smooth.
  2. Add Garlic Butter – Pour the garlic butter mixture over the mashed potatoes and stir until well combined.

Add Dairy and Cheese:

  1. Incorporate Ingredients – Add shredded Cheddar cheese, sour cream, and heavy cream to the mashed potatoes.
  2. Season – Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir until the cheese melts and everything is mixed thoroughly.

Serve:

  1. Transfer & Garnish – Transfer mashed potatoes to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
