Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (or brown rice)
  • 2 cups water or chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley or green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Rice

  • In a medium saucepan, bring water (or broth) to a boil.
  • Add rice and salt, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

Step 2: Make It Cheesy

  • Remove the pot from heat and fluff the rice with a fork.
  • Stir in butter, milk, and garlic powder.
  • Add shredded cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.

Step 3: Serve & Garnish

  • Season with black pepper and paprika, if desired.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.

Notes

Spicy Cheesy Rice: Add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Extra Creamy: Use heavy cream instead of milk for a richer texture.
Mexican Style: Mix in diced tomatoes, black beans, and taco seasoning.
Cheese Options: Try mozzarella, pepper jack, or Parmesan for different flavors.
