This Chicken Parmesan (Chicken Parmigiana) is a crispy, cheesy, and flavorful Italian-American classic! Made with golden-breaded chicken cutlets, rich marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella, it’s perfect for a comforting family dinner. Serve it over pasta or with garlic bread for a restaurant-quality meal at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Slice each chicken breast in half lengthwise for thinner cutlets. Pound to even thickness if needed.

2️⃣ Set Up the Breading Station:

  • Dish 1: Add flour.
  • Dish 2: Beat the eggs.
  • Dish 3: Mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

3️⃣ Bread the Chicken: Dredge each cutlet in flour, dip in eggs, then coat in breadcrumb mixture, pressing to adhere.

4️⃣ Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook cutlets for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Transfer to a baking dish.

5️⃣ Add Sauce & Cheese: Spoon marinara sauce over each cutlet and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.

6️⃣ Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

7️⃣ Serve: Garnish with fresh basil and serve with pasta or garlic bread.

Notes

  • Baked Version: Instead of pan-frying, bake breaded chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes before adding sauce and cheese.
  • Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour.
