Ingredients

For the Chicken Skewers:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
Thread the chicken cubes onto the soaked bamboo skewers, ensuring a small space between each cube for even cooking.
  • Make the Honey Garlic Sauce:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute).
Whisk in the honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Dissolve the cornstarch in ¼ cup of water and stir it into the sauce. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens (about 2-3 minutes).
Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Cook the Chicken Skewers:
Grill Method: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the skewers for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through with a slight char. Brush the honey garlic sauce over the chicken in the last few minutes of grilling.
Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, then brush with sauce and broil for 2-3 minutes to create a nice glaze.
  • Serve:
Remove the skewers from the grill or oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Protein Swap: Use chicken thighs for juicier skewers or tofu for a vegetarian option.
  • Soy Sauce Alternatives: Swap with tamari or coconut aminos for gluten-free options.
  • Sweetener Variations: Maple syrup or agave nectar can be used as honey substitutes.
  • Spicy Twist: Add red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the marinade for extra heat.
