Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough
  • Nuts (usually walnuts, pistachios, or almonds)
  • Butter
  • Honey
  • Sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling: Mix your choice of chopped nuts and sugar together.
  • Assemble the Layers: Brush melted butter on each layer of phyllo dough. Add the nut mixture, then top with another layer of phyllo. Repeat until you have a few layers of nut filling.
  • Bake: Bake the assembled baklava at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Make the Syrup: Boil sugar, water, and honey in a saucepan. Pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  • Let it Cool: Allow the baklava to cool completely so the syrup absorbs into the layers.

Notes

  • Nut Variations: You can use a combination of pistachios, walnuts, or almonds, depending on your preference.
  • Spice it Up: Add cinnamon or cardamom to the nut mixture for a warm, aromatic flavor.
