Ingredients

For the burgers:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or leaner)

  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

For the tomato cream sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (drained)

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For garnish (optional):

  • Fresh parsley or basil, chopped

  • Crumbled feta cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. For the burgers:

    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crumbled feta cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined—avoid overmixing.

    • Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape them into patties. Press a small dimple in the center of each patty.

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium.

  2. For the tomato cream sauce:

    • Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until softened.

    • Add the drained diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (optional). Stir and let simmer for 5-7 minutes.

    • Lower the heat, stir in the heavy cream, and cook for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and become creamy. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. To combine:

    • Once the burgers are cooked, spoon the tomato cream sauce over each patty. Garnish with additional crumbled feta and fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Stuffed Feta: For extra cheesy goodness, stuff the feta inside the patties rather than mixing it in.

  • Spicy Version: Add a chopped jalapeño or a splash of hot sauce to the sauce for added heat.

  • Different Cheese: Swap feta for goat cheese or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.

  • Add Veggies: Serve over sautéed spinach, zucchini noodles, or cauliflower rice for extra veggies and flavor.
