Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef:

    • In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Make the Sauce:

    • Add minced garlic to the skillet with the beef and cook for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.
    • Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and ground ginger.
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  • Serve:

    • Serve the Korean beef over a bed of cooked rice.
    • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Spicy Korean Beef Bowl: Add gochujang (Korean chili paste) or red pepper flakes to increase the spice level.
  • Vegetable Additions: Stir in bell peppers, carrots, or spinach for added nutrition.
  • Alternative Proteins: Use ground turkey, chicken, or tofu as an alternative to beef.
