Mexican Steak is a flavorful, juicy dish made with tender cuts of beef marinated in a zesty blend of spices, herbs, and citrus. Grilled or pan-seared to perfection, it’s perfect for tacos, fajitas, or served alongside rice and beans. With smoky, spicy, and citrusy notes, this easy-to-make recipe will quickly become a favorite in your dinner rotation.

Ingredients

  • For the Steak:
  • 2 ribeye steaks (or your preferred cut of beef)

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons lime juice

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Marinade:
In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).

  • Marinate the Steak:
Place the steaks in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours for more flavor.

  • Grill the Steaks:
Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, remove the steaks from the marinade and place them on the grill.
Grill for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more done.

  • Rest and Slice:
Once cooked to your desired doneness, remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Then, slice the steak against the grain.

  • Serve:
Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side

Notes

  • Add Heat: For spicier steak, increase cayenne pepper or add a chopped jalapeño to the marinade.

  • Vegetarian Option: For a vegetarian version, use portobello mushrooms and grill them in the same marinade.

  • Steak Tacos: Slice the steak thinly and serve in soft corn tortillas with avocado, cilantro, and salsa.

  • Grilled Vegetables: Serve the steak with grilled vegetables like bell peppers, onions, and zucchini.
