Ingredients

For the Ravioli and Sauce:

  • 1 (25 oz) package frozen ravioli (cheese or meat-filled)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Cheese Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For Garnish:

  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Sauté the Vegetables:
In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Make the Sauce:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, heavy cream, chicken (or vegetable) broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Let it cook for 5 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.

  • Add the Ravioli:
Stir in the frozen ravioli, ensuring that each piece is submerged in the sauce. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring gently to avoid breaking the ravioli.

  • Top with Cheese:
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the ravioli and sauce.

  • Bake the Dish:
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the sauce is thickened.
For a golden, bubbly top, broil the dish for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end of baking.

  • Garnish and Serve:
Once out of the oven, garnish with fresh basil or parsley (optional). Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh ravioli for frozen and adjust the baking time accordingly.
  • Add extra vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for a healthy twist.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, include red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
