Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast combines the rich, caramelized flavors of crème brûlée with the comfort of French toast. Perfect for brunch or special occasions, this make-ahead dish is indulgent, creamy, and easy to prepare for a luxurious breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 loaf of French bread, sliced into 1-inch thick slices
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier or orange liqueur (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Prepare the Caramel Base: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth. Pour this mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the Bread: Place the bread slices in a single layer on top of the caramel base.
  • Make the Custard: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, Grand Marnier (if using), and salt. Pour evenly over the bread.
  • Refrigerate: Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  • Serve: Allow the dish to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with berries, whipped cream, or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, or microwave individual slices.
