Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 box of white cake mix (or homemade white cake recipe)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring (gel or liquid, depending on preference)

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (if needed for consistency)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Sprinkles (green or rainbow)
  • Shamrock decorations or candy
  • Whipped cream for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare Cake Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans or line with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Add green food coloring a few drops at a time until the desired shade of green is achieved.
  • Bake the Cake: Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Make the Frosting: Beat together softened butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing until smooth. Add vanilla extract and milk to achieve a spreadable consistency.
  • Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes have cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting over the first layer, then add the second layer and frost the top and sides.
  • Decorate & Serve: Add sprinkles, candy, or whipped cream for decoration. Slice and serve!

Notes

  • Chocolate Version: Use chocolate cake mix or add cocoa powder for a chocolatey twist.
  • Layered Frosting: Tint the frosting green for a more vibrant look or use multiple colors for a rainbow effect.
  • Mini Cake: Bake the cake in smaller pans or as cupcakes for individual servings.
