Simple Broiled Haddock is a quick, healthy, and flavorful fish dish that’s easy to prepare with minimal ingredients. The mild flavor of haddock is enhanced with a simple seasoning blend and broiled to perfection, giving it a crispy golden crust while keeping the inside tender and flaky. This recipe is perfect for a light, satisfying meal that pairs well with a variety of sides, ideal for busy weeknights or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 4 haddock fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Broiler: Preheat your oven’s broiler on high and position the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
  • Prepare the Haddock: Pat the haddock fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture and help the seasoning adhere better.
  • Season the Fish: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Brush the mixture evenly over both sides of the haddock fillets.
  • Broil the Haddock: Place the seasoned fillets on a broiler-safe pan or baking sheet lined with foil. Broil the haddock for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  • Garnish and Serve: Remove the haddock from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Serve with lemon wedges on the side, if desired.

Notes

  • Spicy Haddock: For a spicy kick, add cayenne pepper or smoked paprika to the seasoning blend.
  • Herb-Crusted: Sprinkle fresh or dried herbs like thyme, dill, or rosemary on the fillets before broiling for added flavor.
  • Cheese Topping: Add grated Parmesan cheese on top of the haddock during the last minute of broiling for a golden, cheesy crust.
  • Grilling Option: Grill the haddock for a smoky flavor, using a grill-safe pan or foil to prevent the fish from falling apart.
  • Flavorful Tip: Marinate the haddock in olive oil, lemon, and herbs for 15-30 minutes before broiling for an extra burst of flavor.
