Whether served with rice, sautéed vegetables, or on its own, this dish is a delicious, satisfying meal that’s ideal for busy nights or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 4 cod fillets (about 6 oz each)

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium if preferred)

  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup for a variation)

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white wine vinegar)

  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for a little heat)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Marinade:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and chili flakes (if using) until well combined.

  • Marinate the Cod:

    • Place cod fillets in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour marinade over the fillets, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Let them marinate for 10-15 minutes.

  • Cook the Cod:

    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add cod fillets to the pan. Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is golden and flakes easily with a fork. Drizzle leftover marinade over the fish while cooking to keep it moist.

  • Serve:

    • Transfer the cooked cod to plates and garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, add a dash of hoisin sauce or lime juice to the marinade.

  • Serve the cod with sautéed vegetables or a side of rice for a complete meal.

  • For more heat, add fresh chopped chili peppers to the marinade or sprinkle chili flakes on top.
