Unstuffed Shells Pasta Bake is a simple and delicious twist on the traditional stuffed shells. This easy casserole combines pasta, marinara sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese, making it the perfect family-friendly dinner. It’s quick to prepare, customizable, and all made in one pan for minimal cleanup. A comforting meal that’s sure to please everyone!

Ingredients

  • 1 box of large pasta shells
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the pasta shells according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well mixed.
  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cooked pasta shells and mix gently to coat the pasta.
  • Spoon the ricotta cheese mixture over the pasta, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

  • Add ground meat like beef, turkey for a heartier dish.
  • For a veggie option, add spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini to the ricotta mixture.
  • Increase cheese for extra cheesiness, or experiment with other cheese varieties like provolone or fontina.
